Design.

For the design of the product, my team (Patrick, James and me) will have to design a container that stands out from others on the market. To do this i will have to research other drinks containers and compare the use of colours, fonts, pictures, etc they have used.

Red Bull: This is the can design for Red Bull. The main colours are blue and red, which contrast well with each other. This makes the can stand out. They also show representation of both genders as blue can be considered to be a male colour and red female, or mixed gender. The shape of the can is an average shape for a can but smaller and slimmer. The way the blue and silver are layed out on the can are almost in a flag looking shape, the way they stop at each other. This could be to represent a flag at the start of a race to remind and show the fact that its an energy drink. The two bulls in the centre of the can are simply to be a logo for the drink as they are red bulls.

Relentless: These are 'Relentless' energy drink cans. The can are shaped similar to a beer can and are similar / or the same size as a beer can. This could be to show the masculine side of the drink and to maybe represent it as a males drink for a more 'healthier' and less intoxicating option for a man to choose. The font of the name is very detailed and is an adaption of old English font. It also has a 'Gothic' look to it. This could be to make it look unique and different from others. The colours used for the font is white with a black outline. By using these two colours, the designers have made sure they have used the more dominant contrast. This makes sure that with any background colour, the name still stands out and will not fade into the background.

Monster: These are the designs for Monster. Again the can is shaped and is a similar / or the same size as a beer can. Maybe again to make the male gender a more dominant costumer. The main colour is black. This makes most other colours a big contrast when added on. The name of the drink is in white, again to make the most contrast to the black background. The logos are in bright colours which really stand out and almost looks luminous. The font on the name is unique and catchy.

Rockstar: These are the designs for Rockstar energy drink. The cans shape is similar to both Relentless and Monster. This can shape seems to be the most common, which doesn't seem the stand out as much. This is something i should think of when designing my can. The background colours are different for each flavour drink, and the colour of the title changes also on each can. This means that the title does not have a main recurring colour. The title itself, however stays the same font. The font is simple but adds in a star image the replace the 'A' in Rockstar. The logo of the product however stays the same on each can, no matter what colour the background. This gives the product its 'symbol' and look. The colours altogether on the can stand out and contrast well with each other.

Lucozade: These are designs for Lucozade energy drinks. The first picture is of the original drink which was in a bottle. The original logo and title font colour, font, etc has stayed the same through out the products other designs. The colours are red and yellow which are a good contrast with each other and are colourful and different from the more obvious contrast of black and white. The main original drink is a lot different from other i have looked at as it is in a bottle and not a can. This makes it more useful as it has a lid to close it so it doesn't spill, unlike a can which you would have to drink all of or make sure its placed somewhere stable. The second picture is of the product in a can. The design is pretty much the same as the bottles design, with a few differences as it is in a can. The size is a regular size, the same as Coca Cola can.

The most common /popular shape for an energy drink is in a larger, beer size can. Because this seems to be the most popular, my design will be similar, to try and get the same attraction from buyers. The most popular colours to be on a product are colours that contrast well with each other to stand out. This is a good technique and will be something i will put into my drafts of my designs. To have a big and bold logo for the product is also quite important as it is one of the things that first catches the audiences eye. It can also then be printed on other various things such as t-shirts, cups, hats etc to market the product at sports events. Without a good design and a catchy logo this wouldn't work and would not become as popular.
