Design.

For the design of the product, my team (Patrick, James and me) will have to design a container that stands out from others on the market. To do this i will have to research other drinks containers and compare the use of colours, fonts, pictures, etc they have used.

Red Bull: This is the can design for Red Bull. The main colours are blue and red, which contrast well with each other. This makes the can stand out. They also show representation of both genders as blue can be considered to be a male colour and red female, or mixed gender. The shape of the can is an average shape for a can but smaller and slimmer. The way the blue and silver are layed out on the can are almost in a flag looking shape, the way they stop at each other. This could be to represent a flag at the start of a race to remind and show the fact that its an energy drink. The two bulls in the centre of the can are simply to be a logo for the drink as they are red bulls.

Relentless: These are 'Relentless' energy drink cans. The can are shaped similar to a beer can and are similar / or the same size as a beer can. This could be to show the masculine side of the drink and to maybe represent it as a males drink for a more 'healthier' and less intoxicating option for a man to choose. The font of the name is very detailed and is an adaption of old English font. It also has a 'Gothic' look to it. This could be to make it look unique and different from others. The colours used for the font is white with a black outline. By using these two colours, the designers have made sure they have used the more dominant contrast. This makes sure that with any background colour, the name still stands out and will not fade into the background.

Monster: These are the designs for Monster. Again the can is shaped and is a similar / or the same size as a beer can. Maybe again to make the male gender a more dominant costumer. The main colour is black. This makes most other colours a big contrast when added on. The name of the drink is in white, again to make the most contrast to the black background. The logos are in bright colours which really stand out and almost looks luminous. The font on the name is unique and catchy.

Rockstar: These are the designs for Rockstar energy drink. The cans shape is similar to both Relentless and Monster. This can shape seems to be the most common, which doesn't seem the stand out as much. This is something i should think of when designing my can. The background colours are different for each flavour drink, and the colour of the title changes also on each can. This means that the title does not have a main recurring colour. The title itself, however stays the same font. The font is simple but adds in a star image the replace the 'A' in Rockstar. The logo of the product however stays the same on each can, no matter what colour the background. This gives the product its 'symbol' and look. The colours altogether on the can stand out and contrast well with each other.

Lucozade: These are designs for Lucozade energy drinks. The first picture is of the original drink which was in a bottle. The original logo and title font colour, font, etc has stayed the same through out the products other designs. The colours are red and yellow which are a good contrast with each other and are colourful and different from the more obvious contrast of black and white. The main original drink is a lot different from other i have looked at as it is in a bottle and not a can. This makes it more useful as it has a lid to close it so it doesn't spill, unlike a can which you would have to drink all of or make sure its placed somewhere stable. The second picture is of the product in a can. The design is pretty much the same as the bottles design, with a few differences as it is in a can. The size is a regular size, the same as Coca Cola can.

The most common /popular shape for an energy drink is in a larger, beer size can. Because this seems to be the most popular, my design will be similar, to try and get the same attraction from buyers. The most popular colours to be on a product are colours that contrast well with each other to stand out. This is a good technique and will be something i will put into my drafts of my designs. To have a big and bold logo for the product is also quite important as it is one of the things that first catches the audiences eye. It can also then be printed on other various things such as t-shirts, cups, hats etc to market the product at sports events. Without a good design and a catchy logo this wouldn't work and would not become as popular.

Price Comparisons.

Red Bull: £1.10 - £1.15

Relentless: £1.29 - £1.89

Monster:
£1.60 - £1.90

Rockstar: 99p - £1.60

Lucazade: £1.09 - £1.49

Powerade: £1.00 - £1.37

All the energy drinks i have researched are under £2.00, because of this my product will be also, as people will not buy a drink that costs a lot more than most other energy drinks on the market. The majority of prices are in the range of £1.00 - £1.50. Because of this i will make my product price on average about £1.00. This is because there are few drinks this low a price so will be convenient to the customer.

Target audience.

- Our target audience for the product is teenagers / young adults. This is because it is a fairly easy audience to please.
- The gender is mainly males hence the boys skating advert, however it is for females also.
- The age range would be 16+ like all energy drinks as it is a product with caffeine in, so would not be suitable for younger children.

Name ideas.

For our product we have to decide on a name to call it. It has to be something catchy and that relates to the product.
Here are some we came up with : - Buzz
- Rush
- Lightning
- Rapid
- Recharge
- Reload.

We decided to use Recharge. This is because it is catchy and has a meaning of recharging what it is meant for, in this case a person as it is an energy drink, and gives meaning for the drink.

Ideas.

These are some ideas for our advert :

Idea 1 - Film an advert being filmed, sort of 'behind the scenes' type, to look like the audience is someone stood in the studio behind the camera watching it being filmed.
- The actor / actress seems distressed and is unfocused, stuttering and getting lines mixed up.
- They then drink some of the product they are advertising which then gives them the ability to say their lines smoothly, believable and they have more concentration.

Idea 2 - Teenager is told to tidy their room.
-They push things to the side and seem really sluggish and can't be bothered to put effort into tidying up, resulting in them not doing a good job.
-When next told to tidy their room, they have some of the product at hand and have a drink. This then shows the teen (slightly in fast forward) tidying their room. This results in it being spotless and the teen being rewarded with some pocket money off parents.

Idea 3 - Someone walking their dog.
-The dog is really pulling on the lead to drag the owner along as they are walking really slowly and have no energy at all and no enthusiasm in walking their dog.
- A friend of the dog owner jogging past stops and offers them a drink, the dog owner has some and ends up being the opposite from the start, i.e. pulling the dog along instead of them walking the dog.

Idea 4 - Teen boys down a skate park.
- It shows the teen(s) skating really bad and falling all over the place.
- Drink some of the drink and become more focused and energised and start doing tricks and don't fall off.

Intro.

This is my blog for my second year of Media Studies A levels.
After completing a blog for my first project, i found using blogger very useful in completing ideas and write ups, as it is easy to access at home and college.

This year for my project we have been asked to complete an advert for TV. We are to complete two different adverts but for the same project. Along with the adverts we are to create either : a TV programme sponsorship sequence, a web pop up or a radio advertisement.

For my groups product we have decided to advertise a new energy drink. This is because we can relate to the audience the product would be trying to relate to as we are all in the age group the product would be marketed at. This would give us an advantage to producing the advert.

The additional part of the package we have chosen to do is a TV programme sponsorship sequence. This is because it will be easy to achieve because we will have the equipment to complete it already from doing our advert.
